A public room on Chaturbate is free to watch, and that is exactly what recording sites rely on. Automated tools join popular rooms, capture the stream and post the result on archive sites, tube sites and file hosts, often under your model name. Free to watch does not mean free to copy. This guide explains your rights in a show you perform, where recordings tend to appear, and the practical steps to get them removed and keep them down.
- A public show is free to watch, not free to record and republish.
- Keeping your own recording of each show strengthens your copyright claim in it.
- Recordings spread to cam recording archives, tube sites, file hosts, leak forums and Telegram channels.
- Removal works best in layers: the site, then its host or CDN, then search engines.
- Recording sites re-capture new shows, so ongoing monitoring matters more than one big clean-up.
Why public shows get recorded
Recording sites are a business. They earn from ads, paid memberships and links to file hosts. Your model name is the product they sell, because fans search for it. Many of these sites record automatically, so it is not personal and it does not mean someone you know is behind it. It does mean new shows can be captured as long as you keep streaming in public.
The more popular a room becomes, the more likely it is to be recorded. Growth on the platform tends to bring more recordings with it. That is worth knowing in advance, so a sudden wave of recordings does not feel like a sign that something went wrong.
Recordings usually include your room name, your face and often your tip menu or overlays. That makes them easy to find, and it also makes them easier for you to prove as yours. Recordings are also often cut into shorter clips and screenshots, which then spread further on their own, so one show can turn into many separate links.
Do you own a live show you perform?
Copyright protects work that is fixed, meaning recorded in some lasting form. A live stream raises a fair question: if nothing was saved, is there anything to protect? US copyright law answers this directly. A live transmission counts as fixed if a recording of it is made at the same time it is transmitted, by you or with your permission.
In practice that gives you a simple habit. Record your own shows, or keep the recordings your setup already makes. Your recording is the fixed copy of your work. A pirate's capture is an unauthorised copy of it. Your file also shows the date, the length and the content, which is useful evidence if anyone disputes a notice.
Your show is also yours in other ways. You chose the setting, the performance, the music you have rights to, the overlays and the room design. Check Chaturbate's own broadcaster terms for what rights you grant the platform, because those terms set the platform's position, not the recording site's. This is general information, not legal advice.
Where recordings end up
You do not need to visit these sites to know they exist. Recordings tend to move through the same categories:
- Cam recording archives that index shows by model name and date.
- Tube sites that host full shows or cut highlight clips.
- File hosts and cloud folders where the actual video files sit, linked from elsewhere.
- Leak forums where users post links to file hosts.
- Telegram channels and Discord servers that share files or links directly.
- Search results for your model name plus words like recorded or show.
To check your own exposure safely, use our leak checker instead of clicking through these sites. Many are full of aggressive ads and malware.
How to get recordings removed
Removal works best in layers. Start with the site, then go above it, then cut it off from search.
- 01Collect exact linksSave the URL of each recording page and, if visible, the file host link. Note the show date shown on the page.
- 02Match each link to your originalFind your own recording for that date. You do not need to send the file, but you should be able to.
- 03Send a DMCA notice to the siteMost sites list a DMCA or abuse email. Include every link, a description of your show and a statement under penalty of perjury. Our DMCA generator can draft it in your model name.
- 04Escalate to the host or CDNIf the site ignores you, send the notice to the company that hosts it or serves its files. Hosts usually act faster because they carry the legal risk.
- 05Remove file host copiesThe video often lives on a separate file host. Notify that host directly, because removing the page alone leaves the file reachable.
- 06Delist from Google and BingSubmit the links to search engine copyright forms. See Google removals and our search delisting guide.
If you have not done this before, our guide on filing a DMCA takedown yourself walks through each part of a notice.
When archive sites ignore notices
Some recording sites are hosted in places that are slow to respond, or they simply ignore notices. That is frustrating, but it is not the end of the road.
- Go up the chain. Every site depends on a hosting company, often a CDN, and a domain registrar. Each has an abuse process.
- Focus on search. Even when a page stays online, removing it from Google and Bing cuts most of its traffic for your name.
- Target the file, not just the page. If the file host removes the video, the archive page becomes an empty shell.
- Keep records. A log of notices sent and ignored supports later escalation or legal advice.
For the bigger picture on legal action, see sue or send takedowns.
Protecting future shows
You cannot stop someone pressing record on a public stream. You can make recordings easier to prove and less useful to the people who take them.
- Add a visible overlay with your model name and the platform, placed where it is hard to crop out.
- Keep your own recording of every show with the date in the file name.
- Use any region-blocking and privacy settings the platform offers, and review them after updates.
- Run a recurring name search, because recording sites re-capture new shows.
- Watch for fake profiles using your clips, with the impersonation checker.
This is ongoing work, which is why many models hand it off. Lock Leaks for Chaturbate models monitors your model name, sends notices and escalates to hosts. Our article on why leaks keep coming back explains the reupload cycle, and pricing lists the plans.
